I heartily congratulate the people of Taiwan with regard to the result of Presidential and Legislative Election on January 16, 2016. I would like to express my warm gratitude for your kind sharing of the good news as well. It is quite inspiring that the Taiwanese people have chosen Dr. Tsai Ing-Wen as their president and given most of the seats to the Democratic Progressive Party. I have been especially inspired by the news that the young generation of Taiwan has taken significant roles in the process of democratization. I rejoice in one accord with the people and will be vigorously supporting the PCT's courageous endeavor to enhance people's life in terms of human rights and to advocate the independence of the nation. I hope that the PCK and PCT would be standing firmly in strong solidarity with Hope for the Reign of God which drives unrighteous earthly powers out and brings the Just Peace into the vulnerable world, in the midst of complex and multi-faceted situation with which East Asian countries have encountered. May the Peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be always with the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan as well as the people of God who cry out for God's intervention in their daily lives! We rejoice that the process ran smoothly and that the transition of power was achieved without incident and that so many young people especially participated in the elections as campaigners and candidates. We congratulate the new president, Dr Tsai Ing-Wen, on her election and wish her well for the future government of Taiwan. In this sense it was a very special Sunday. The number of attendees seemed to be much smaller than usual due to the elections (as the rest went back to Taiwan), but the Lord allowed me to have a good fellowship after the worship service. 21 January 2016 Dear Rev. Lyim, I hope that 2016 will be a good happy and blessed one for you and for the PCT. We were overjoyed to learn the results of the election I wrote to Shou Hwei in Manchester to give our congratulations. Now having the actual results it is even better news as we worried that there would be opposition but with such a clear majority that is unlikely, at least within Taiwan. After the invitation to the 150th anniversary came I was excited as I had attended the 100th but as I received it too late to apply and in any case my hip would have not liked the journey (I was hit by a car four years ago which broke my hip and it is still not good and was very sore when the invitation came.). I did think of attending the later celebration in September but after realising how hot and humid it would be at that time of year and that the celebrations would all be in Taiwanese I decided not to. It would be lovely to see my friends particularly those on the East Coast. If my hip improves I might go.
